Our company, NEMS/MEMS WORKS LLC, introduces a new product CuO Nanorods.
Nanomaterials have a higher surface area in comparison with conventional materials. This is a characteristic that can have significant changes on their physical and chemical properties. Our company is pleased to introduce a new nanomaterial with unique physical and chemical properties - Copper (II) Oxide Nanorods.
Physical characteristics of the NEMS/MEMS WORKS LLC Copper (II) Oxide nanorods.
CuO Nanorods (NEMS/MEMS Works LLC): Diameter : 8 - 12 nm; Length: 150 - 200 nm; Surface Area: 100 – 120 m2/g
CuO Nanoparticles (Sigma Aldrich): Diameter < 50 nm; Surface area - 29 m2/g
NEMS/MEMS WORKS LLC Copper (II) Oxide nanorods has been optimized to use as an oxidizer for nanothermite composition. CuO/Al nanoparticles composition was tested and significantly better performance was observed.
Energetic Characteristics of CuO nanorods based nanothermites and comparison with commercially available CuO nanoparticles based nanothermite.
CuO Nanorods (NEMS/MEMS Works LLC) CuO Nanorods/Al
Combustion Wave Speed: 2350 m/s
Peak Pressure*: 42 ± 3 MPa
Pressurization Rate *: 5.2 ± 0.3 MPa/μs
Commercial grade CuO Nanoparticles/Al:
Combustion Wave Speed: 1500 m/s
Peak Pressure*: 22 ± 3 MPa
Pressurization Rate *: 2.5 ± 0.3 MPa/μs
* Data obtained from 60 cubic mm calorimetric bomb measurements and 20 mg of thermite mixtures load
Our material was designed and optimized as oxidizing agent for energetic formulation, especially for high performance nanothermite composition. Performance of designed nanothermite composition is the best in this class of the energetic materials.
Nevertheless, applications of NEMS/MEMS Copper (II) Oxide Nanorods are not limited in the field of high speed chemical reaction. Copper (II) Oxide nanorods can also be used in electrochemistry application, as a chemical catalyst agent, sensor application, medical application, optical application, fine abrasive material, color agent at ceramic manufactures, thermoplastics reinforcement.
